Caroline Brown “I have worked with The Big Ink twice and can’t wait to do it again! There is nothing more satisfying than bringing a large print to life after months of carving on an oversized block. The beauty of the experience is the collaborative nature of printing large-scale; everyone helps and encourages each other, cheering as each big print is lifted (by FOUR participants!) off the press. Lyell brings years of printmaking expertise and a calm, confident presence to the day and ensures that each artist goes home happy with three great prints.”

Amy Friend “Being my second workshop with Big Ink, I felt much more confident in my preparation! However, it had been a few years, and I had forgotten how valuable to print day was. Mostly because of Lyell’s enthusiasm for this craft and the camaraderie of the other artists. I learned so much from the artists about carving techniques, overcoming challenges, and the importance of artist communities.”

Vanesa Simon “I was hesitant to sign up as someone who had limited experience carving on wood but I’m so glad that I did! The video lessons are very helpful to learn from, they are concise and thorough. And the printing day was so much fun with a supportive community of people so willing to help. Lyell is a generous instructor. The day flowed well because he is so organized and a clear communicator. Thank you for a wonderful experience!”

Wendy Shield “What a great experience! I would highly recommend this workshop to folks of all skill levels, including beginners. Lyell has gathered an awesome and supportive community of fellow artists who will help and encourage you. Do it!”
