I have been connected to New Mexico for 50 years, and when I heard BigInk was heading to Albuquerque, I knew I had to take advantage. I live in Massachusetts but have been carrying a Santa Fe Print idea in my head for a few years. I carved my image in my studio in New Bedford, Massachusetts, then shipped it to a friend’s shop in Santa Fe before my arrival. It was all worth it: shipping, travel, and time. It was my second BigInk workshop. Lyell can settle in and make each location welcoming to all. Lyell doesn’t skip a beat, creating a creative and supportive atmosphere for all. I’m scheming my next project!

When Big Ink came to Albuquerque last spring, it really gave our group a sense of community and solidarity as printmakers. We helped each other with inking and lining up the paper as each block was printed, taking pride in each other’s work. Lyell made it seem so easy, but he was behind the scenes with the knowledge and skill that was needed to make each print a success!
