“My current work is based on cave interiors, especially the formations of flow stones, stalactites, and stalagmites. The earliest known drawings over 30,000 years old are found in caves. Humans have been drawn to these chambers for a very long time, and I am no exception. In February 2019 I visited Carlsbad Caverns for the first time. This print is based on a halftone photograph I took inside the cave. I used a wire brush to bring out the grain of the wood before tracing the image onto it with carbon paper. My print is a negative or reversed image since the white circles should be black. I used different sized drill bits to cut out the holes.” – Mark Williams
