My woodblock print “What Would MLK Jr Say Today?” harnesses the power of visual art to contest social injustice. The United States is built upon slavery, settler colonialism and racism, all of which continue to violently impact black and brown lives. “I cannot breathe” is the result of these stifling historical atrocities. To start the healing, black and brown lives (BIPOC) need apologies, reparations, solidarity. Otherwise the cycle of violence perpetuated by the police state threatens to become a national asphyxiation. – Todd Ayoung
